Donners of the Dead by Karina Halle

The year is 1851 and the pioneers in search of California gold are still afraid to travel on the same route as the Donner party did years before. When the last wagon train to go into the Sierra Nevada mountains fails to arrive at their destination, Eve Smith, an 18year old half-native girl with immense tracking skills is brought along with the search party, headed by an enigmatic former Texas Ranger, Jake McGraw.

What they find deep in the dangerous snow-covered terrain is a consequence of cannibalism, giving new meaning to the term "monster." While the search party is slowly picked off, one by one, Eve must learn to trust Jake, who harbors more than a few secrets of his own, in order to survive and prevent the monstrosities from reaching civilization.

I have been waiting to read Donners of the Dead, and once again Karina Halle out did herself!

Okay I'm just going to come out and say it was a 4 Star rating for me. The writing was awesome like always and she didn't disappoint me with this book.

Donners of the Dead is loosely base around a set of true events when the Donner Party went through uncharted regions and strands a wagon train in the Sierra Mountains leaving little choice for survival and lots of cannibalism.

Eve is a a 18 year old half Native American who is strong but also vulnerable, I fell in love with her character immediately!
Jake McGraw is a sexy ex Texas Ranger who is mysterious and a arrogant bastard.

Both of them along with a group of people set on a expedition into the mountains.
Now reading this at 3 in the morning left me wide awake and not sleeping! Flesh eating monsters was is not what I wanted to be dreaming about, but I wouldn't mind that arrogant bastard Jake keeping me warm in bed;)
The action pack writing in this book is to die for!

There is finger biting, heart eating, eyeball stew, and even romance in between all the terror. What else can you expect from one of the most awesome authors out there!

There is gore, suspense, mystery, action pack, and romance not to mention my Texan accent came out full blast while reading it.lol
Karina Halle's book left me fangirling over her even more. All her books are fascinating, gripping, and captivating!
Donners of the Dead is a great read and would recommend this to anyone.

I Give Karina Halle
**** 4 ****
